The Presentations Part2

This is our final lesson for TWC, it was my group’s turn to present our web report. After intensive research and many hours spend on designing and editing the website, we every finally happy with our production. Despite the many problems we faced during the making of our report, we did not give us and constantly put overheads together to come up with the best method to present our research. During the presentation, besides the minor hiccup when we were setting up, all else was smooth sailing. We hoped that the class enjoyed our presentation and look forward to any feedback so that we can improve our website.

After we presented, the next group showcase their topic on vaccinations. It is an important topic as many of us, fortunate Singaporean, is able to enjoy the well provided medical services from the government from the day we were born. Hence, we tend to disregard how such vaccinations were developed. It was after their insightful presentation that I better understand several significant developments in the vaccination industry. It is a very technical topic but they were able to attract my attention throughout the presentation and also interest me into exploring their website further. However, one minor suggestion will be to breakdown the information further so that there will be lesser words on one page. This will be easier on the eyes of the reader.

Next up was the group presenting on Technology and its Implication for Food and Nutrition. Their website is rather different from the rest of ours. They provided detailed information pertaining to this topic and presented them in a very simple way. There isn’t much animation however, the tabs on the top allowed us to zoom in to the specific sub point we are interested in. It is a simple website with a great deal of useful information! Similar to the previous group, if they were able to shorten the paragraphs, it will be easier for reader to digest the information.

Presentations ended with the group whom researched on Crime Tracking. This topic is very interesting as I am a fan of CSI. Their web report provided detailed information on the improvement of Crime Tracking with the help of advanced technology and also suggests possible innovations that may appear in the near future. The layout of the web page was inline with the report topic, providing readers the crime investigation feel. The color theme used was clear which enabled them to portray their information well. After browsing through their website, I felt that it was rather easy to navigate making it user friendly.

This marks the end of TWC, a course, which allowed me to learn more about the various technological innovation created throughout the years and its impact on society. Technology is such a broad topic hence, it is impossible for us to cover everything during our lesson. Much research have to be done during our free time and making use of the Facebook page to hold discussion is an alternative way for us to learn more about technology and world change. Over the years, many improvements have been made to allow us to better enjoy our life. Therefore it is important for us to understand the development of such innovations and its impact on society, in order for us to continue our search on ways to make the world a better place to live in.

The Presentations Part1

During lesson 11 we enjoyed the awesome presentations from 4 groups, covering a wide variety of topics. The first group presented on E commerce, they applied an online shopping layout for their web report. I felt that it drew great relevance to their topic and the layout is interesting and interactive. With a colorful layout, it managed to attract my attention to the website. However, since their topic is in relation to astatic, so it is important to remove pixelated photos and replace them with higher resolution pictures.

Next, another group presented on the topic “Finding Love Online”. It is an interesting topic given today’s wide usage of the Internet. The group covered an in-depth research on method of finding love from the past until the current technique of online dating. They also included various links for the convenience to users visiting the website. Sometime commendable about this group is that they decided to use iWeb instead. By sacrificing the use of flash, they managed to achieve a simple layout and a website that is easy to navigate. Overall, the layout of pictures and text were clear and easy to understand.

The third group presented on Kinetic Technology. They started with the introduction of usage of kinetic energy in the past and highlight significant changes as technology developed. Their website gave me a futuristic feeling which is inline with their content. They also provided an evaluation of some of the popular devices invented using the concept of kinetic technology. Areas whereby they can improve will be to make minor adjustment to their formatting so that the presentation of their content will be more standardized. Their website is interactive and interest me in taking a second look.

The last presentation for the day was on the topic of Technology and Genetically modified food. The layout is interesting as they provided a variety of GM food and price quotes of them, making it seem as though we are shopping for groceries. The information is well organized and concise, making it easy for readers to understand.

After listening to all the presentations, I managed to learn a little more on the individual topics and how the groups organize their content. An important aspect of a web report is to provide sufficient information and at the same time make it easy to navigate. However, we realized that although free webhosting platform provides many simple animations, they tend to be rather restrictive and difficult to customize. Therefore after sharing over experience with using WIX we managed to learn alternative ways to get the effects we want to achieve.

Although IT improved exponentially through the years, enabling us to achieve a wider variety of effects to present our work, simplicity of application usually comes along with much restriction. This is especially evident in free web services. Hence, we often have to think of alternative solution when we hit a roadblock. I enjoyed the time spent on creating our group’s web report!
